Fashion photography course

One to one tuition with a professional photographer improving your skills. I will teach you how to photograph models using a range of techniques. I will show you a simple repeatable system that will make the technical side of photography easy to understand. By the time you have finished the course you will be producing a very high standard of work.

The fashion photography course will cover all the technical aspects of photography that you will need, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, depth of field, contrast control, lighting and composition. Producing a consistent set of images for your portfolio is very important if you would like to become a fashion photographer. It is very important to master the basics first before moving on to more advanced techniques. I will teach you how to pre-visualise your final image, then plan and set up what you have pre-visualised. This is a hands on course and we will be working on a range of shots using different lenses and lighting techniques.

Having a style that is commercial is very important if you would like to make a living in this competitive industry.

One to one tuition

Individual tuition from a professional photographer with over twenty year's experience. Work at your own pace in a relaxed atmosphere without distraction.

Equipment list

Having the right equipment for fashion photography is very important. I have an equipment page on this website that will help you choose the right cameras and lenses..

It is important to have a range of lenses. I can recommend the Canon 80D and the Canon 85mm 1.8 lens. A standard Canon 50mm 1.4 lens is also a good choice.

A good tripod that is easy to use is also very important. I can recommend the Manfrotto 190 kit . I have used this tripod on many occasions and have been very impressed. I would also recommend buying a good camera bag to protect your equipment.

Exposure value technique

I will explain the F-stop system and exposure value technique. You will learn how to combine shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings to produce excellent quality images straight out of the camera.

The great thing about the one to one fashion photography course is you will have my full attention all day without any interruption. I have simplified the whole process to make it possible for anyone to learn fashion photography very quickly.

I will show you how to use flash the simple way, and you will be using flash confidently very quickly.

Fashion & wedding photography

I have always enjoyed photographing models, and moved my focus to wedding photography about fourteen years ago. I combine everything I have learnt with models into a wedding coverage photographing brides.

I can give you allot of marketing advice to help you enter the fashion photography industry. It is important to fix your style and be consistent.

Q & A

Q. Do you recommend Canon , Nikon or Sony?

A. All the cameras are very similar now. I have always used Canon throughout my professional career. The back up and support from Canon is second to none.

Q. Do I need to buy professional camera equipment before I attend the course?

A. I recommend Canon cameras and lenses, please get in touch for a list of equipment. The Canon 80D including the 18-135mm IS Nano lens is the combination I recommend at the moment.

Q. Do you provide models to photograph on the day?

A. I can provide a model if you wish at an additional cost of £150 per day. It is not really essential as we will be focusing on the technical side of photography. You can bring along a friend to model if you wish.

Q. How do i get work in the fashion industry?

A. Having a consistent style will help allot. I see photographers changing their style every year. When someone is going to hire a photographer they look for the style first.

Q. If I travel by train to Worcester can you pick me up from the station?

A. Yes I can come and collect you from the station and return you at the end of the day. I can also recommend local accommodation near my studio in Worcester if you would like to stay.

Q. Can you supply all the equipment as I do not have a flash system?

A. Yes please do not worry about equipment. Most photographers have to much anyway. I can organise everything we will need. including cameras, lenses and the flash system. The only thing you really need to bring along is yourself and allot of enthusiasm.

Q. Do you offer Adobe Photoshop courses as well?

A. I recommend using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. You will need a separate course to master these complex programs.

Q. Are you a fashion photographer, or a wedding photographer now.

A. I am now a wedding photographer. I use allot of the techniques that are popular in the fashion industry. I photograph bridal wear and have focused on the wedding photography industry now.

Q. Everyone tells me that it is impossible to be a fashion photographer as it is so competitive?

A. Most people do not have the right training. I would focus on three key areas. Build a portfolio including a selection of images that show you have a fixed style. Start to assist as many fashion photographers as you can. Network with the right people.
