Adobe Photoshop Elements is the first software I advise beginners to buy, and also advanced photographers. People are often shocked when I tell them I do not use Adobe Photoshop but rely on a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Elements. I like the interface that Elements offers and I find it quick and easy to edit and repair images. It is also great for preparing photos and graphics for websites.
Adobe lightroom is the best choice when you need to edit hundreds of images from a portrait or wedding shoot. Once you have a thorough understanding of the basics of Adobe Lightroom and how it works, you will see why my wedding business relies on it every week. If you photograph thirty weddings in one season you may have 30,000 images to edit, white balance, crop and convert to black and white. Adobe photoshop is not designed for this purpose, Adobe lightroom is. I started using Lightroom from the first day the Lightroom 1 BETA version was available and keep up to date with every version.
